Above, Moxie’s Supper Club in Casco, WI. We have been taking side roads recently and exploring out of the way places in search of really good Friday night fish fry. At Moxie’s, the sweet and charming young waitress made a point to assure us, in a local colloquialism that’s quaint and certainly amusing, “You’z guys’zes food will be coming out shortly.” Most of these NE Wisconsin places follow the same protocol. You order dinner at the bar where you have a drink (or two) and socialize. The host or hostess calls you (or your number) moments before your food is ready to arrive at your table. Moxie’s fish fry (I had the perch) was good, but it had more breading than C likes. The broasted potatoes were tasty, and pickles, as is not uncommon in these places, stood in for vegetables. The bad news was that the wine selection was limited to Lambrusco and Rosé. Yuck.
